About Us

The Cinema Studies Group (CSG) is a discussion group at the Graduate Center, CUNY for students from all departments interested in film and media. Our primary purpose is to foster an intellectual and social community that encourages interaction across disciplines between scholars. In addition, we aim to promote professional development for students.

History: CSG was founded in 2007 by Film Studies Certificate Program (FSCP) student representatives Elizabeth Alsop and Kelley Kawano. Since then, we have hosted a number of events for the GC community, including film screenings, discussions, happy hours, and the first FSCP graduate conference, Framed: Delimiting the Film Image (2008).

CSG Co-chairs (2007-12): Elizabeth Alsop (Comparative Literature) & Kelley Kawano (English)

Conference Co-chairs for Finishes: Arts and Texts in Cinema and Media (2012): Ria Banerjee (English) & Annie Dell’Aria (Art History)
